We have always toyed with the idea of introducing a members area to our wallpaper sites and have returned to the idea several times. Recently, after a search on Google, we found some software that looked like it could do the job we want it to do. This is to provide a password protected area for members to access with the power to process payments as well. Simple.
A members area would allow us to provide extra benefits to loyal users by removing adverts and allowing access to desktop wallpapers that are not available on the public pages. More features will be added in due course such as access to high resolution wallpapers and…well, we are not sure yet! We have decided to make the members area free for now, but we may introduce a subscription fee later on.
The software we are using is aMember Pro which costs $139.95. We downloaded the trial version, installed it and got it working very quickly (there is an option available to request free installation). After a day or two of tinkering we decided to go ahead and make the purchase.
After the installation you are required to log into the admin section and set up the functions required for the membership scheme. Here you can set values for login and password minimum and maximum lengths, automatic generation of passwords and whether or not you require the member to have a unique email address. You can also set other values such as the currency you would like to accept payments in. It has support for PayPal, 2Checkout, ccBill, Clickbank, Authorize.net, WorldPay, LinkPoint, NoChex and other payment systems (over 50 are currently supported).
So far we have found it very easy to use, but we will let you know how it handles the more we use it.
