What is desktop wallpaper?
Published by Stephen | Filed under Desktop Wallpaper
Desktop wallpaper is the name given to the picture used to decorate your computer background.
All PC’s come with a standard set of desktop wallpapers packaged within Windows which can be changed at your leisure via the Control Panel. Fortunately, you are not limited to using these pictures, as virtually any picture you see on the internet can be used as a desktop wallpaper. All you have to do is click the picture and select the appropriate command.
When choosing a desktop wallpaper to use on your computer, you should choose one that is the same size as the screen resolution of your computer. The most common size is 1024 x 768 followed by 800 x 600 and 1280 x 1024. To find out the resolution of your screen, follow these instructions.
- Close all program windows and right click on your desktop.
- Select properties from the menu then click on the appearance tab.
- In the middle of the pop up window, toward the left hand side, you will see a ’screen resolution’ section and a moveable slider.
- The figure shows your screen resolution.
- You can move the slider to change it.
You can also use photographs stored on your PC as a desktop wallpaper. To do this in Windows you should view the folder the picture is stored in in Filmstrip mode and right click the larger image and select “set as desktop background”.
The beauty of the second method is you can use your own photographs as your desktop wallpaper!
